Reaching sex workers in Paris
A few words to introduce me : I am a 41 years old Frenchman, married since the age of 25 and father of two daughters (15 and 7)...And my job is marketing qualitative studies (now as a free lance)
I started 6 years ago to reach street prostitutes who worked in the neighbourhood of my office. My aim was, as a Christian activist, to talk to them about my faith and to help them (if possible) to quit prostitution.
First step for me was to gain their confidence which wasn't an easy task...and took months and months... Prostitution is a closed world and most of prostitutes are very suspicious (which I can easily understand...). The fact that I was a man didn't help either... The method I used was to spend long time in the "cafés" where they used to go and meet once their job was finished. They became used to seeing me there often and from time to time I had the opportunities to have conversations with them. Once they realized clearly that I wasn't a potential customer it became easier. I didn't hide (on the contrary) that I was Christian and going to church every Sunday... but I didn't make proselytism at the beginning. Then progressively I told to those who became friends that I prayed for her everyday and I gave them medals and sometimes religious books for those who appeared interested.
What I have learn't is that you can't expect results in short term. The keyword is PATIENCE ("Patience gains everything" told once Theresa of Avila). All of the prostitutes I met were strong alcohol drinkers and most of them drug (cocain specially) addicts. The biggest problem being MONEY (fastly earned). Sadly I have seen several women quitting to start a small job and going back on the street because prostitution was for them a faster way to get money. As Shelley wrote on the forum once, your heart is broken... Your heart can be broken too when you lend money (for example to pay the weekly baby sitting of a baby..) .and you realize that this money finished in a casino or in a poker game.
But thanks God and with His Help, some have quit and live now far from that. I realized that the younger they were the easier it was for them to quit. When they have been prostitutes for 20, 30 or even 40 years it's very difficult for them to project themselves into a new and different life (sadly prostitution has become their world and they have few or even no friends outside).
I have learnt too that friendship and love is the prerequisit to act efficiently. If people don't feel they are loved they don't listen to you.
Praying is another requisit. You have to pray (and to make pray) before, during and after. Without help of the Holy Spirit nothing good can be said and done.
To conclude, maybe the most important is to never forget that you don't work for yourself but for our Lord. "Purifier l'intention"= "purify the intent" as is said in theology. Never forget that we are just tools in God's Hands.
Thanks for reading me and forgive my pooor english ;-)
God bless you all !

Wow.
This thread is REALLY not what I thought it would be about.
not sure what you thought this thread was going to be about but...
this is a site of healing and restoration. A safe place for those to come who have been affected by porn in one way or another. We are not here to hammer people over the head or to help them fulfill any desires that they may have.
We are here as a team, with God as our leader to show love, and support. AS well as offering prayer to those who need it and who want complete healing from this addiction and or it's affects.
I will be praying for you Phil.may you be blessed as you read other postings in the forums.

REMEMBER THAT NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU HAVE FALLEN
IT IS NEVER FURTHER THAN GOD CAN REACH
Your English is great,we understand what it is your saying.
I think Love is what God is having me work on, right now it's connecting with people in my workplace. But I've heard it said that, "We should start in your own backyards." It's obvious Bruno yours was reaching these girls, I require much more patients before I tackle that venture. As I said before I don't know that I'm called to sex workers. But one thing I remember as a child was, being raped all the time and finally deciding I might as well give it away to the older boys who were raping me, "After all there going to take it anyway, I might as well get something out of it." I have heard those very words out of so many mouths of prostitutes and it's heart breaking.
In about 2006 there were a string of murders I read about in USA Today among Philadelphia prostitutes. One of the prostitutes said,"It's like no one cares whether we live or die." I was practically in tears, I was like, "I care." Because I remember what those years were like for me as a child. It was God who kept me alive(even though I didn't know it.)he gave me a window into heaven and he gave me the hope to live one day at a time.
speak into someones life. We need to love them like Christ loved us.....'

As Charles de Foucauld (a former great sinner and sex addict himself... who ended hermit in Sahara in 1916) once wrote : "what is important is less what you SAY than what you ARE"
Love is THE key

"If I had committed all possible crimes, I would still have the same confidence; I would feel that this multitude of offenses would be like a drop of water thrown into a flaming furnace" Therese of the Child Jesus
like carolemarie mentioned "Love as Christ loves"....Jesus didn't beat people over the head with the bible and religion....HE loved people, and showed that love to all in every situation (which is difficult) There are some people in my church who ask "why do you want to talk to those people (strippers, prostitutes, homeless) and "why do you want to go into those places?" My response "Jesus did it." And we are called to be like Christ:) As well everyone has their own gifts and talents that the Lord has given them....I have tried the shut ins, those in the elderly homes etc, NOT me.....God gave me a heart for those on the streets and in the clubs and I want to go where he wants me to go.
show them the love of Jesus and let god work out the rest...and i totally agree with building of relationships....but as we all know and need to remember it may take awhile...BUT with God all things are possible and keep persevering.

Thanks for your encouragement... I'm deeply moved that comes from you
There is something very important and I think about it reading you talking about "persevering". It is in Mark chapter 4 and I am sure you know it ...I'll find the exact reference when I am home. It's a parabole where Jesus means that we, as Christians, are called to spread the seed without fretting over the end result of every seed we plant.... And the seed grows by itself....I find it very encouraging when we are confronted with no VISIBLE results (and it happens often reaching out sex workers)). God is the master of the harvest !"Thy Will be done"

I'll bet NONE of us were saved by people yelling at us that "YOU need..." or "YOU are..." It's true. We all need to repent and there is a hell, but unless someone earns the right to speak by including themselves as sinners as the Old Testament messengers did, and as carolmarie said- we are not representing God's heart towards the lost and are speaking out of our own attitudes of prejudice, disgust, fear, anger, hatred and every other human emotion that is natural before we ever got saved! God wants to transform our natural feelings into His compassion, concern and Love! Amen! Unless people can SEE, HEAR and FEEL a supernatural transformation in our own hearts by the delivery of our words to them, it is best that we remain quiet because they won't be drawn to the message, even when we are speaking truth.
I'd like to meet just ONE person who ever ran to the feet of the ones with the bullhorns who can't include themselves in their message. No one has ever been born again to God through anger, belittling, superiority, arrogance and any other negative human emotion!
How much different and better it would be if the preachers would include themselves in the message like the prophets and messengers did of old and as example! THAT would be an effective preacher! More eople would be drawn to his/her compassion and caring because that is God's heart! Do we truly want people to be saved as we say or are we just wanting to project our own disgust of their sins- as if anyone's sins are "better" than another.
The church going servant who never accepted the Lord's gift of salvation is going to be sitting right next to the vile sinner who never accepted the Lord's salvation in hell.
Looks like there is no sin any "better" or "worse" than another. I know mine sure isn't.
When you write about the need to incarnate the Gospel and the Love we preech. Without Love what we do is NOTHING wrote the Apostle Paul.
But I don't totally agree with your last sentence "Looks like there is no sin any "better" or "worse" than another". It's a difficult theologian issue but if you consider what Jesus said about the Pharisians it seems (and I believe) that the worst sins are "pride sins" (because they put into blindness about our spiritual state) and furthermore pride was the sin of the Devil (who, as an angel, has no body but a very intelligent spirit)... But I admit it's a complex issue...
God bless you Marchel

Yes, I hear you Bruno. Love is the ultimate "universal language" and the true test of the realness of the Lord's gospel.
I see what you're saying... Thanks for bringing up your point. I meant it from the standpoint that none of us can take a "superior" stance as did the Pharisees who say, "I thank God I'm not as THEY are..." Rather than those who say, "I thank God that I was once as they are and they too could be a 'once was' as I am". Huge difference in attitude of the heart and as one sharing the Gospel.
Yes, I agree... There is one sin greater than all sins and that is the sin of pride that would keep one from rejecting The Payment for their sins.
We're all "thrown in the sin pot" no matter how we got there and how "finely chopped" we were before we were thrown in. Thankfully, Jesus is "the ladle" to save us from getting eaten! LOL Amen!
God's continued blessings to you!
God thinks it is since it all get punished the same. Death.
That is an ouch....
I agree that people don't go out to those in the sex trade or other places, mainly because they don't know how.
I can feel equally uncomfortable in a church world....
I take lots of newbies into the clubs and streets with me, and all they need is a heart that loves, God does the rest....
I think we need to remeber that the bible tells us to stand in the Gap for the sinner, Moses did, Paul did and Jesus did. Paul identiied so much that he would have given up his salvation for the others to be saved if it was possible...Jesus laid down his life for us....extravagent love is the mark of a Christian, so if we are not willing to love them enough to lose our reputations, then we are not really loving at all....

It took me a very long time to bring my past in to the light....to tell others my story and thank the Lord that He saved me from death over and over again. I KNOW that if it were not for Him, I would be dead.
My heart breaks and aches for these precious women and men you feel that there is no other way. that they feel trapped...it breaks my heart and I pray that one day that the love of Jesus will overcome every dark place.
BUT for now we are called to be like Christ, to GO OUT INTO the world and share His love...to let others know that they are made for greater things. He doesn't tell us to come into the church and just sit there every Sunday, Wednesday or Friday...HE TELLS US TO GO OUT. Let others know that there is one who loves them NO MATTER what they have done.
I DO NOT MEAN hit them over the head with the bible, religion, and preaching....BUT SHOW THEM LOVE....TALK TO THEM LIKE THEY ARE HUMAN, LIKE THEY ARE SPECIAL. Build that relationship, with trust and compassion. I DON'T MEAN be a doormat and be abused by anyone....but LOVE AS JC loves us. Be BOLD and step out in FAITH....and judge not lest ye be judged...and I don't know about you...BUT I am FAR from being perfect.
Those of us who have been in the industry, can help educate and bring others into the MINISTRY of reaching out to those who are still in the industry...teach them, train them so to speak. What I say to the ladies who help me is "LOOK the ladies in the eye....and talk to them like they are the most important person in the world. After all they are princesses to...they just haven't had the opportunity to realize that yet:]"
I love each of you here and I pray and speak boldness, love, compassion and more for you as you step out in faith, doing as the Heavenly Father asks us to do...to GO OUT INTO THE WORLD reaching others with the love and the truth that only JC can offer:]
BE STRONG...BE FAITHFUL...BE BOLD and remember JC is always with you, where ever you go and what ever you do...and He is stronger than any bouncer, pimp, and patron:]
PLANT THE SEED AND LET GOD DO THE WATERING:]
love ya...

REMEMBER THAT NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU HAVE FALLEN
IT IS NEVER FURTHER THAN GOD CAN REACH:)
Noone will do it for us. This is our duty and at the time of our death God will ask us about people we have reached out and people we haven't (and that we should have...). We are HIS tools, sinful tools but this is HIS choice.
And never despair about the VISIBLE results (or lack of) :
26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;
27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.
28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.
God bless you and your work Carrie

REMEMBER THAT NO MATTER HOW FAR YOU HAVE FALLEN

I didn't want anyone to know my past, so I didn't try to help those still trapped in the business...
BUT when I finally did God just opened doors and provided me with opportunities to reach out to other girls and help train those who want to help but have no idea what to do....
Love is the key and the greatest weapon God has given us and love never fails....God loves these women and wants to reach them and we get the honor of serving them....how cool is that :)
I am so glad you are busy endangering the devil in Canada!
