Helping sex workers who have drug problems
I have recently had to deal with women who are doing meth and stripping and want out. Right now we have them go to detox and a 28 day in patient program, then have them follow up with Celebrate Recovery.
I don't really like NA and AA programs, since you have to speak curses over your life (I am an addict) and CR has you say I am a child of God working on my addiction issues- which is the truth!
and CR has same sex groups, which with all the issues sex workers have I think is better....
But I am not fond of the idea you have to go to meetings forever! There comes a point when you should have the tools to cope and not need to go have your hand held....when would that point be and how would you know?
I am trying to get some input from people who have recovered and see if Iam off base here
(I have been clean for almost 30 years, never went to any of this stuff, so I need some comparisons)
Thanks you guys!!!!

Hi Carol Marie, Gods grace and blessing be upon you as you flow ministering to your friend. I have over 17 years in the clear with being drug free, I do have a glass of wine every so often. I was in AA and NA for years, and had a sponsor as well. You are so true, there is a point were your wings should be strong enough to carry a person into a fruitful free life.
I have seen the opposite to be the case as well, were people stay stunted in the victim mentality that is subservient to their sponsors. It is like codependency that is like submitting to someone to allow themselves to be mastered, not a good thing if the person they are submitting to is a swindler or just a leech. But that is comfortable and satisfactory for those who have no expectation beyond recovery, or if that is the place were they find their identity accepted and embraced, they may have been rejected all their life. In essence their recovery and the program is their life, so it makes since they go year after year after year, there are always people like this in almost any program.
You may consider asking your friend what is her plan after recovery, were does she want to go? Does she have a vision or passion for her life, she desires to serve? If she does starting with just a sponsor and a desire to become one is a great focus point to help her stay on task and on target, growing forward and being groomed in leadership and mentor task patterns for herself and others.
I do agree I’m not totally fond of the NA and AA programs, however if that is what is open and available I want to encourage you to trust His plan. Keep your friend in prayer and release her into His ability and don‘t allow your doubt to be the helm of your heart and mouth. Determine to see Him in her life and speak that to her, I’m sure you do :) I would defiantly say if you can get her into Celebrate Recovery that would be the best, another program that is excellent and effective in really working through those deep generational patterns of sin and curses is Cleansing Streams, they have satellite classes all over, you can type up Cleansing Streams Van Nuys in Goggle and then call them they can direct you further to a local group in your area. This ministry had the most impact in my life, I really struggled the first 7 years of my Christianity, and this is what flipped me forward in breakthrough and maturity.

Sounds great!
