Some effective tools & tactics
While I myself cannot be considered a full blown addict, even limiting ones self to an occasional peep show or free sample on the web without downloading makes one hooked if not reeled in.
My first upper hand in my struggle was at a Promise Keepers Ralley where one speaker told of how he was embarrased while hosting a mens retreat where in spite of the fact that the entire hotle was rented out to his congregation, half the rooms were renting pay per view porn. The Hotel manager told him in disgust "If this is you ideas of Jesus, count me out!"
He then called upon all of us who viewed porn, were engaged in adultery or fornication to come fourth and join him in a prayer of repentance. I myself was sincere and while I still have stumbled, it felt as though the ege of the temptation was dulled. While leaving the rally, I overheard many in the parking lot laughing at how there was no way they were really going to stop what they were doing.
This is the first tool in ones war on porn addiction:
Don't simply ask Christ to remove the temptation. The next move I myself made was to actuall pray a prayer where I placed this desire at the foot of the Cross. The question remains, did you really place it at the foot of the Cross with all your heart or just go through the motions? If one really did put it there, the next time you are tempted, I myself get the sensation of asking }Lord! Can I have this back for a while?" If one is truly in Christ, then it is very difficult to ask that of him.
Second: Every time you are tempted, log on to this site first and read the stories of the former porn stars and other addicts. For me, it really takes the edge off any temptation.
Third: If all else fails and you find yourself on a porn site, look for the subtle signs of the horror stories the former porn stars mention on this site.
