I Need Help

I too was an addict for 25 years and tried to quit so many times but it wasn't till I got serious that I was able to quit. I've been clean for about 3 months now. It wasn't easy, there were alot of temptations, but through prayer, reading God's word and my accountablity partners it has made it a little easiser to manage.

Get a filter and accoutablity software. These will help, but the biggest help is a good partner. Someone you trust. We can get around filters and other stuff if we want it bad enough but a friend will keep you honest and it makes you feel like your not alone in this. Look at all the testamonies plus God does want the best for you. Sometimes He may seem far away but I can atest to the fact that he never left or gave up on me!! The filter has pevented most of the sites, but I too have discoverd there are ways around it to access some porn. I keep adding those sites/keywords to the banned list, but keep coming up w/new ways to get around it. I think what may help is if I had accountibility software and used someone that I would be mortified if they saw where I was going on the net! Two months is the longest I've gone, that was a few months ago. Once you give in again, it's just as hard as ever to get back on track! I'm going back to Sexaholics Anonymous. While I don't agree w/everything espoused there, there is much good that can God can do there for and with us. There are some christians who think it is impossible for the "true christian" to be enslaved to sin, if that were true than we would have no need of sites like this one.

Thank you for the advice and the kind words. I have been married now for 2 years to the most understanding and sweet woman. Although she has never been addicted to porn and has only watched it on seldom occasions, she knows what I am struggling with (her last boyfriend collected it). I cannot lie to this woman and I don't want to. She is as good an accountability partner as I am going to find. But even she knows I need help from a male perspective. So, I am going to take you up on your offer for help when I need it. Can I add you to my buddy list? How do you do that?

I went through the Setting Captives Free course, while it did some good, I would no longer recommned it. I have no doubt that God has used it to set many people free, but as w/any teaching, your going to need discernment. Of course the mentors vary in their beliefs, but at the core of SCF and it's founder is an extremist form of fundamental christianity.
