I'm looking for a program of device which will block the internet for a specific period of time. The reason I'm looking for such a device is because I'm trying to stop watching porn, and when the temptation gets too high for me I'd like to just flip a switch (so to speak) and turn off the internet, totally, for a few hours until things cool down.

Anybody know of such a thing?

Thanks,

X

I don't, but a filter

I don't, but a filter w/accountability options is your best bet. I would advise giving a person whom you would be mortified by if you knew they would know where you are going on the net that ability. Someone like your mother, girlfriend/wife, pastor...We should also realize Jesus knows where we are going and what we are doing at all times, why aren't we mortified by that?!

internet blocking

Hey X,

There is no fool proof system. But Candlemass is right about a filter. I use BSecure on my home and in my offices. They have an all-in-one security suite that you can renew annually for a reasonable expense. They also have applications for the iPhone for mobile browsers.

Candlemass makes a good point though. This will not work unless you involve someone else in your recovery. Of course your recovery won't work period until you begin involving other people around you. Without someone who can hold onto the pass code you can turn your filter on and off at will so it isn't very effective.

Ultimately, a barriers approach to your recovery is only a tool. It is not a fix. Surrender to the process of recovery is going to be about inviting grace into your life. Fixing a problem from the outside doesn't do anything but put a band-aid on it. The real healing takes place on the inside - i.e. grace-full recovery beats a law-full recovery every time.
