*Cough*

So uh, why does God choose to speak to "some" people and make the rest all frustrated and stuff? We want to hear him, but he doesn't budge...he only talks to a select few. Umm...why, oh WHY does he do this to us? Hm? It's quite frustrating to really really want God to tell me something, but he just crosses his arms and walks off :((.

God still speaks....

 Hey agrl20:

God still speaks to us every day throught his word, the Bible.  But you probably want to know why he chooses to speak to some with an audible voice but not others?  That's a fair enough question.  The reason is because most of us simply cannot handle it.  The human heart is so sinful and God is so holy that if he does speak to us direct, it causes trauma within us.  In Deuteronomy 5, God speaks to the Israelites from mount Sinai, and it causes absolute panic in the hearts of the people.   In fact they respond by saying, "if we hear the voice of the Lord our God any longer, then we will die" (verse 25).   For the few that have heard an audible voice, it has the tendency to mess them up for the rest of their lives.   They wonder to themselves, "did I really hear that?"  Or, they reject it outright.   The human heart has a difficultly accepting a direct dialog with the Lord, because that sinful aspect of our natures wants to push it out or deny it.  So, why doesn't God just speak to you directly?  Because he loves you so much that he doesn't want you to feel the effects of that trauma.   However, God does still speak to us through his written word.  The Bible is a love letter written to us so that we can know him better.   You want to hear from God?  You only need to read what he has written to you.

May the Lord bless you....

Same Here

Hi Beautiful,

I have the same feeling. I yell at Him because sometimes I feel like He's not there and if He was, He would just say something to me. And it is so frustrating. But if you think about it, if God was to speak to you directly then you know that He does exist and then you would follow him out of the fear of Hell. By Him not doing so, it gives us a chance to have faith in Him and through different experiences He talks to you.

Actually God is

Actually God is there....just don't look so hard :-) It's something I've had to learn to do and I hear him almost daily now. Through songs I like, through other people, etc. When he talks to you its very subtle almost like a breeze in the wind. Here is something I think you might find enlightening.

-Trey

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints and other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, "You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in ...the sand, is when I carried you."

Trust in God's written Word to you

The neat thing about God speaking to us by way of the Bible is the fact that it is written down, and always accessible to us. We never have to second guess ourselves and ask ourselves "was this really God talking?" because right there it is in front of us, every time, written down, ready for us to return to it time and time again so that it can sink way deep down inside of us. I can't think of a better way for God to speak to us than by way of a love letter, can you?

Study His Word. Daily. Open yourself up to its instructions to you. At your young age, I would definitely recommend you study Proverbs because it has such wisdom for especially young people. It has 31 chapters so a very good thing is to read a chapter a day and you can easily read through it in a month (and then start all over again if you wish).

Also the Gospel of John. Much of it is Jesus telling you who He really is and what He is all about, so that you can trust Him better and see Him more clearly.

When I was a new believer, the Bible is what God used to speak to me, time and time again. For good reason, because I needed to learn to become grounded in His written Word and really get it into my system in a solid and deep way. It's still my favorite way to get to know Him better and to hear from Him because His Word doesn't change. He still uses Scripture to teach me and guide me and speak to me, always. Something very neat happens when a verse or passage kinda "jumps" off the page and turns on lights inside of you and becomes part of you. Because His Word is alive and powerful. Trust Him on that one, okay?

You're not being left out of anything. God isn't slighting you. He wants you to become grounded in what He has already communicated to us for thousands of years now, words that have stood the test of time, that you can depend on, always.

You say you want foolproof and absolute truth. There's nothing more foolproof and absolute truth than Scripture when it comes to God communicating with us.

I think He has...

One thing I have desired of the LORD…that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple. (Ps. 27:4)

As I read what you have written, Agrl20... I think He is speaking to you, and even more, it appears that you are hearing Him. I mean... who else could have such a desire to know and be known by God and hear and be heard by Him. The strong desire that you have for Him has been put there by His Spirit...

Is it intimacy with God that you desire? To know and be known by Him?

Now... I don't usually try to get this practical when it comes to things of intimacy... but sometimes being practical helps us to position ourselves to recognize and receive things of God... and this works for me...

Three prayer focuses:
1. Intimacy: Focus on giving your love and devotion to God. In prayer worship, meditate on the Word (prayer-reading it) and just spend time with the Spirit.
2. Petition: Asks for God’s blessing on your personal life (heart, circumstances, ministry).
3. Intercession: Asks for God’s power or justice for others (people, places, strategic issues)

I believe you'll find that you are positioned to cultivate an 'ear towards God'...

That's my 2-cents...

Good stuff guys!!

Please keep praying for Terra. She and I are working thru a book for healing on abuse issues, and seeing her history-- and mine as well--with starting something and giving up, pray that God will give us the grace to persevere until God is able to break thru our walls of self-protection and really is able to get the healing process going, and we can be free.

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom".
"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free"
"(He's come to) bind up the brokenhearted and set captives free"

I want us both to truly receive and experience the love of God and be rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine!...I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;...You are precious and honored in my eyes, and I love you...do not be afraid, for I am with you." (Is.43:4-5)

What I meant by that Beloved

What I meant by that Beloved was...he doesn't speak to me "clearly".Some people hear him quite clear. I know there are other ways that he supposedly speaks to people. If he has spoken to me through other things, then I didn't get it. There have been times when I first got "saved" that I THOUGHT he was telling me something, but our minds can play tricks. We can deceive ourselves. I'm a "I need the absolute truth" kind of person. I need to REALLY know something is true to believe it. So, if I don't know for sure that what I heard was from God, then it's not true enough. I'm like that with almost everything. If one person says I'm pretty, but someone else disagrees, then I have a hard time believing what anyone says about my looks. I'm either pretty, or I'm ugly. I'm either a good person, or a horrible person. If I believe the rapture comes before the tribulation, but other people believe differently, I just say, whatever. I just don't know. I guess we will see what happens in the end. I don't want to believe a lie. I don't want to be brainwashed. Well, all that was a bit long and probably not necessary, but you know what I mean now lol.

A good book for clarity

Hi,
A good book for clarity and defeating confusion is Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. It has helped many with discernment. I can get a copy for you if you'd like?? Just let me know, I know that it will help you.

Blessings,
Jan

Hey Jan. I actually own that

Hey Jan. I actually own that book. 2 of them lol. Read like 1 chapter. Have not finished it. A lot of people seem to love that book. I own a lot of self help books. Guess I should put them to use eh? heh. It's weird...I can read Harry Potter all the way through, but not the ones I should read. Think it's because it represents work and change?

Know what you mean

I have read many christian and self-help books over the years, some of the same ones, like Beauty for Ashes, both editions, Managing your emotions, bondage breaker, mind is a battlefield...I could go on. And like you, the problem is putting them to practice, applying them. It's like I expected to be changed by "osmosis", just by reading the info and get an "aha" moment. Hee.

Now, I am just telling God I can't, and asking for His grace. I always fail. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by THE FAITH OF THE SON OF GOD, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." (Gal. 2:20). Trying to figure the balance between what I can't do and letting God do in me thru the Holy Spirit, and not trying to do things in the flesh that continually fail. May the Lord continue to teach me! And you, Terra.

I think another issue for you is spiritual warfare, Terra. Harry Potter is not godly material, nor is the hard rock music you've been listening too. Haven't checked out the wow game you have played a lot of, but typically a lot of games nowadays have a lot of evil spiritual stuff in them. With your history, and struggle with relationship with God, I have no doubt that satan has been given entrance in your life on some level and is fighting anything and everything you do to get free from his grasp. I don't know how uncomfortable you are with this idea, many christians in churches are quite uncomfortable with this, but it is a reality we must realize. Jesus certainly encountered satan and dealt with him directly, and one of His purposes was to destroy the works of satan.

One of the best things to do to fight against satan's work in your life, and mine, is reading the bible and knowing the truth about God, replacing the lies of satan with God's word of truth. That is what we are doing right now, a little at a time. May God give us grace to persevere towards our healing and deliverance that was already paid for by Jesus 2000 years ago, cuz we were worth dying for! :)

Hmmm, maybe...

Maybe He has answered your cry for help, your prayer, by using me and others here to reach out to you? You and I are talking thru emails, working thru the book, "On the Threshold". I've been crying out to Him for a long time too and most times feel like I get nothing, too. I've reached out to others to minister to me, only to get "dropped". But now, here we are, able to talk and share our burdens with each other. We are both willing to work thru the book. Maybe that is what God is having us do right now, cuz our pain and shame and fear and distrust of God is preventing us from hearing Him. Perhaps as we work thru the book and allow God to work in our minds and hearts along the way, the more we get healed, the more likely we will be able to finally hear Him. Cuz we finally really understand what a good and loving God He really is. :)

I understand

Hi, agrl;

I hear your frustration, and I am so sorry. I know what you are saying. I am wondering, though -- what do you mean by God is not speaking to you?

God speaks to us in many ways. Most of the time, it's through His word, but sometimes He also speaks to us through another person, or through a song, or sometimes even through what is going on around us. Seldom does he speak to us directly, like I am speaking with you. He has spoken to me like that, but mostly, it's when I read His word and really meditate on Him.

Also sometimes we will go through dry periods when we won't hear from God. We all go through that. It can be frustrating, I know, but that is how God builds trust in us -- how He teaches us to walk by faith, and not sight. Israel experienced a 300 year period when they didn't hear from God, but even so, He never forsook them, and He won't forsake you, either.

Just keep seeking Him and be patient. He loves you so much -- He has not abandoned you.

hey......

God is always with you my friend and HE NEVER leaves you. You are His daughter a child of God. He longs to speak to you,He speaks to us through His word and He longs to be close to you.

I will be praying that you will hear Him and that He will speak clearly to you, and that your mind may be free from distraction....as I know (from experiance)that sometimes when our minds are cluttered with a bunch of other stuff, that is when we don't hear Him as clearly, and when He seems far away. Keep in the word, I know that in doing so you will hear Him.

I will be keeping you in prayer girl....GO bless and GOD bless.
