Basic Truths Part 8: Total Commitment

Before we go into the next major section of our study, take a moment and ponder this:

How much of coming to Jesus was because of what you might get out of it?
How much of coming to Jesus was receiving him as Lord - the complete ruler of your life?

There is a difference in the two.

The Bible tells us in Romans 10:13: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Calling on who? The Lord. Calling on the Lord means that you are willing to make Him the master... the boss... and the ruler of every part of your life. Every minute of ever day. Total commitment is required.

Sometimes, you may have heard a sermon and walked away saying, ‘I don’t know, Jesus sounds kind of weak.’ Instead of telling you that if you come to Jesus, then life will be a bed of roses, the message that you should be getting is this: “Jesus must be the Lord over everything in your life. Are you willing to die for Jesus if you have to?”

Total commitment.

Listen to Jesus’ own words in Luke 14:33: “...those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.” This isn’t a soft message here, but you need to consider it right now. Whether you have just received salvation, or have been stale in your faith for years, or have been desiring the heart of God with some intensity... understand this: Jesus requires total commitment.

True Christians have Christ as the Lord of every area of their lives, and you can be sure of this one thing: it shows.

To make this kind of commitment, you will need to seriously count the cost.

Question:
Did you come to Jesus more for ‘what you could get’, or ‘to have a Lord in your life’?
