Basic Truths Part 4: REALITY CHECK
Reality Check
Before you can be made right in God’s eyes when it comes to sexual addictions or anything else, you need to understand the REALITY CHECK that comes from this verse in the Bible:
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
You’re a sinner. I’m a sinner. We are all sinners.
The word SIN literally means ‘to miss the mark.’ When it comes to your life and things of God, the truth is that the SIN that is present inside of you causes you to ‘miss the mark of God’s perfect will.’ Every now and again, even the greatest marksmen on the planet will ‘miss the bulls eye’. Sin misses the mark of God’s perfect will - as revealed in the Word that was given to us, called The Bible. As a result of missing the mark, we are separated from God and that perfect will.
You and I both know that nobody has ever even lived up to God’s 10 Commandments. Try it out:
Ever told a lie? That makes you a liar.
Ever stolen something (doesn’t matter how small)? That makes you a thief.
Ever looked at a person with lust in your heart? (This is the Pink Cross Forum right?) Jesus says in Matthew 5:28 that that makes you an adulterer.
That is only 3 out of 10. So far you are at least a lying, thieving adulterer. If God judged you by the 10 commandments, would you be innocent or guilty? Exactly.
Guilty.
Your own conscience convicted you of that one. But that is the REALITY CHECK that I am talking about. God wouldn’t be a good God, and His standards wouldn’t mean anything if He let those who violate His commandments or their own consciences off free and clear. No good judge would do that.
Fortunately, Jesus came to solve the sin problem for you.
First, he convicts us, or makes us aware of our sin: He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin... (John 16:8).
Time Out!!!
“How could God reject me if I only have one or two little sins!”
Try this. Put a chain link rope from the top of the tallest building in your area to the ground, and ensure that two of the links in the chain are weak and broken. Now climb the chain link to the top of the building. Go for it. You see... even one sin can separate you from God. He loves you... but He hates sin.
Sin is like cancer. If one person in your family had cancer... you would hate that cancer. Even if it were just small and on their pinky toe. You would hate it. That is how God feels about your sin.
God knows more than you do that the sin of sexual addiction or pornography will destroy you. You have probably already experienced some of that destruction already. God created you for fellowship with Him... and He hates the fact that all of this sin is keeping you out of that relationship.
God loves you and does not want pornography (or any sin) to destroy you. But another reality check is this... IF YOU STUBBORNLY CLING TO PORNOGRAPHY, YOU WILL BE DESTROYED BY IT.
Can you admit that you are missing the mark?
Can you believe that Jesus CAN rescue from your lost state.
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.” - John 3:18
In the next lesson... I’ll show you the steps you need to take to receive the liberation and freedom and new life we at the Pink Cross desire to see you receive. God wants you back. Is anything still holding you back?
Comments
I think the saying, "therein lies the problem" applies here. I do think I have a problem with truly acknowledging my sinful nature and sinfulness. I tend to either blame others ('they made me angry'), make excuses (I'm tired, didn't get enough sleep), minimize it (it's not that bad), etc. So to answer the question, can I admit that I'm missing the mark? Can I truly confess my sins and repent? Not sure if I can if I tend to blame, excuse, justify, minimize, can I?
As to whether I believe Jesus can rescue me...I have difficulty learning to accept that Jesus did redeem me from my sins and my sinful nature, so that with Him in me, I can walk in holiness and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, so that I will not gratify the desires of my flesh...I don't know how to apply this, how to walk this out practically. I've never "got it". Ughh.
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine!...I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;...You are precious and honored in my eyes, and I love you...do not be afraid, for I am with you." (Is.43:4-5)
