Basic Truths Part 11: Unless You Give Your All
Let’s pretend that you see my car for sale on a website... and what you see you like. But when you get to the bottom of the listing, you read that I would like to keep the glove compartment. Would you think that I was crazy?
If you think about it though... that is how some people think that they can come to Jesus.
“Jesus, I give you my life - all of it - except my finances...”
“Jesus, I give you my life - all of it - except my future...”
“Jesus, I give you my life - all of it - except my thought life...”
“Jesus, I give you my life - all of it - except ___________________...”
There once was a rich, young ruler who asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life (read about it in Matt. 19:16-22). Jesus knew the one area that the man was clinging to was his riches... so Jesus told him to sell his possessions and give them to the poor. This made the young man sad, because his riches meant more to him that the opportunity to actually walk with Jesus.
Easy question: What was first place in this young man’s life?
Exactly.
Jesus wasn’t about to give him an easy way out with 25 percent down, and monthly payments with zero percent financing.
Jesus knew that this young man had a god in his life, and it was money. Jesus knew that the money god was going to have to be abandoned if He was going to get that first place spot.
Jesus is Lord of all your life... or He is not.
Have you ever sat down for a weekend and put one of those 500 piece puzzles together... only to come to the end and discover a few pieces are missing? There is something about that experience that leaves you knowing that it is still incomplete.
The fulfillment of getting it finished... well, it’s not completely there.
Sin frustrates you, because it reminds you that something is missing in your life. There is no peace if there is sin. But when Jesus becomes the Lord of your life, you have fullness and a reason to live.
And here is the beautiful part: Jesus came to give you an abundant life, filled with purpose and meaning (see John 10:10).
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12)
When you receive Jesus as your Lord, you begin to experience His life.
The Lord wants you to know what it means to be excited about living again!!!
God has an awesome plan for your life today. But you will never walk in the fullness of what the Lord has in store for you unless you give your entire being to the Lord.
